Glyburide for Type 2 Diabetes will make you fat

So I started back on glyburide once a day in the mornings. My sugars are definitely doing better now, but I have started to gain weight. Not sure what all is causing this.

I find myself stressing about getting a sugar low so I try and eat things more regularly. I definitely eat more carbs since I am worried that not enough is going to bring about a low.

I am eating more junk, especially sugary stuff. Part of it is my relaxation on the diet since I am eating more medication, but part of it seems to be an incredible urge to do so that does not seem to be in my control. I used to have urges before but I could get control on them in a day or two. This time it is over 2 weeks and still not slow down. Not sure if this is glyburide doing something internally, or my brain, or a combination.

Net effect of taking the medication, I am feeling a little more balanced through the day as my sugars are controlled, but the weighing balance is tending to move into the higher range.

Sigh, just another thing we diabetics have to balance in life.

I started on Glyburide in late October. Since then, I have lost maybe 16 pounds, which is an extraordinary amount of weight for me. Before going on the Glyburide, I was on Metformin 850/twice a day. (I was losing weight very slowly on Metformin.) I have hypoglycemic episodes several times a week, usually three or four hours after breakfast. Sometimes snacks don't help. I have increased my carb intake a little bit, but I really haven't changed my diet much, which is probably why I hypo all the time! Some people think that more insulin production results in weight gain (a lot of Type 1s can attest to that since they inject insulin), but sometimes I wonder if overcompensating with food for hypos is why the weight gain occurs in part. In your case, it might be. Clearly, Glyburide is too strong for you and me. We might need to go off it or get a dosage reduction.

For the last two months I have been running a test on fenugreek seeds. Back in India, one of the traditional remedies has been to eat fenugreek seeds. In the local language, Hindi, they are known as Methi Seeds. What do I do? Every night I take a spoonful of the seeds and soak it in water. Nyquil got to my diabetes

I have been battling a cold and cough that is really getting to me. The pains in the back are finally gone and today I was able to get back on the treadmill. I had an interesting experience a couple of days ago. To finally be able to sleep, I decided to take Nyquil to get a good sleep. My after dinner sugar number was 151. I took Nyquil later in the night before I went to sleep. Did not eat anything before that. Woke up in the morning and checked my sugars, I was at 157. It was shocking. My morning fasting sugars tend to be in the 120's, not good, but atleast I can predict them. This was totally out of the blue and threw me into a really bad day of high sugars. Now what really happened. I kept thinking about this. I realized it must have been the Nyquil. It has alcohol in it and all is very sweet. The sugars must have gotten to me.
